Disney plays a large role in the lives of people both young and old. The Disney Corporation markets itself as a family friendly business which makes profits by selling products and entertainment. Disney creates products to sell based off the movies they produce. Most American's are Disney consumers; if you’re a Disney consumer have you ever questioned what you were supporting when making your Disney purchases or watching a Disney movie? Do you just automatically trust the Disney Corporation with your child or do you sit down and read closely into what the Disney movies are teaching your children?
Watching this YouTube video has made me think about the lessons that the Disney Princesses are teaching young girls. Like these girls mothers, do you also encourage your children to become Disney characters? In this video we can see that Grace and Daniela’s mothers have great faith in the Disney Corporation and trust the Disney employees with their daughters. The princesses in this video teach the girls what it takes to be a princess and then the young girls are transformed into their favorite princesses at the Bippidi Boppidi Boo Boutique. Have you ever thought about what these princesses and the other Disney characters teach your children. Could the Disney characters be influencing your child's actions and beliefs? Or, do you just hear the Disney name and automatically approve of it?
I am not asking you to turn your back on Disney and look at it as an evil corporation but just to look more into what the Disney Corporation teaches children. I believe it is important to understand what messages are being relayed to children as they view these movies so that as a parent or teacher you can understand why children may act a particular way or, believe certain things.
